Privacy Notice
This is the plain-English version of how PreMovers.ca and BrightCat Data handle the personal information you share with us. It applies to visitors of premovers.ca, people who download our Buyer's Guide, and anyone who contacts us for sample data or licensing.
1. Who we are
PreMovers.ca is a product brand operated by BrightCat Data Ltd., a private limited company registered in the United Kingdom. BrightCat has operated a continuous Canadian property intelligence pipeline since 2014. PreMovers.ca is one of BrightCat's product brands, sitting alongside BrightCat Listings, BrightCat Sold, BrightCat Rentals, BrightCat Commercial, and BrightCat Core.
Because we collect information about people in Canada, we treat the Canadian federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) as our baseline compliance framework, with the Quebec Law 25 requirements layered on top for any Quebec residents whose information we handle.
2. What information we collect, and why
From visitors to premovers.ca
Standard server logs capture IP address, user agent, referring URL, and request timestamps. We use these for security, fraud prevention, and traffic analysis. We don't use third-party analytics trackers (Google Analytics, Meta pixels, etc.) on this site.
From people who download the Buyer's Guide
When you fill out the download form, we capture:
- First name — so we know who you are when we follow up.
- Work email — to deliver the guide and follow up appropriately.
- Company — to understand who's evaluating us.
- Role — to route your follow-up to the right commercial context (procurement, data team, marketing, etc.).
- IP address and submission timestamp — captured automatically by our form handler, used for fraud prevention and to create an audit trail of consent.
- Explicit consent — captured via the checkbox on the form, recorded with the submission.
From people who contact us directly
When you email hello@premovers.ca or use any other contact channel, we process whatever you choose to send us — typically a name, email, and the content of your request. We don't ask for more than we need to respond.
What we never collect
We do not collect financial information, government-issued identifiers (SIN, passport, driver's licence), health information, or anything about your personal life outside your professional context.
Cookies and tracking
We do not set tracking cookies on this site. We do not use analytics cookies, advertising cookies, or cross-site trackers of any kind. Your browser may store small technical items (such as browser-level font caching) as part of normal web operation, but we do not read those, set identifiers in them, or use them to recognize you across visits.
3. How we use it
The personal information above is used for:
- Delivering the Buyer's Guide PDF to your email
- Responding to sample requests and commercial inquiries
- Occasional product updates — no more than once a quarter, and only when something meaningfully changes (new product, significant methodology update, material pricing shift)
- Fraud prevention, security, and compliance recordkeeping
We don't profile you. We don't build behavioural advertising audiences. We don't sell your information. We don't share it with third parties except the minimal vendors listed in section 5.
4. Legal basis for processing
Under PIPEDA, we rely on implied consent for processing clearly linked to the reason you contacted us (e.g., delivering the Buyer's Guide you requested) and express consent for anything else (e.g., adding you to occasional product updates — the checkbox on the download form).
Under Quebec Law 25, your consent is manifest, free, informed, and given for specific purposes — the checkbox on the download form captures that, and the form intro clearly tells you what we're collecting and why. You can withdraw consent at any time using the methods in section 6.
5. Who we share it with
We rely on a small set of service providers to operate the business. When we share personal information with them, we do so only to the extent necessary to deliver the service:
- Form handling for the Buyer's Guide download is provided by Basin (Moonshot Ventures Inc.), a Canadian form backend service registered in British Columbia. Basin receives and stores the form fields plus your IP address, user agent, and submission timestamp when you submit the download form. Basin is contractually a data processor acting on our instructions, and their terms are governed by Canadian law and acknowledge PIPEDA compliance obligations. Their privacy information is available at usebasin.com/privacy.
- Email infrastructure (for sending you the guide and occasional updates) — an appropriate email service provider, with contractual privacy obligations.
- Hosting — premovers.ca is hosted on commercial web infrastructure with standard security controls.
- Typography delivery — our site loads fonts (Fraunces, Inter Tight, JetBrains Mono) from Google Fonts. When your browser requests those fonts, Google's servers receive your IP address and user agent as part of the normal HTTP request for the font files. Google is not permitted to use this information for advertising or profiling. Their privacy information is at policies.google.com/privacy.
- BrightCat Data internal systems — the customer record underlying your inquiry, used to manage the commercial relationship.
We do not share personal information with advertising networks, data brokers, or any party whose business model involves resale of customer data. We do not use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or any other behavioral-tracking service on this site.
6. Your rights
Under PIPEDA and Law 25, you have the right to:
- Access — ask us what personal information we hold about you.
- Correction — ask us to correct anything that's wrong or out of date.
- Deletion — ask us to erase your personal information, subject to any overriding legal retention requirements.
- Withdrawal of consent — tell us to stop using your information for marketing or other optional purposes.
- Portability (under Law 25) — ask for a structured copy of your information.
- Complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec.
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@premovers.ca with the subject line "Privacy request." We respond within 30 days (and usually much faster).
7. Retention
We keep Buyer's Guide form submissions and contact inquiries for as long as necessary to maintain the commercial relationship, typically 3 years after your last interaction with us. You can request earlier deletion at any time.
Server logs are retained for 90 days for security purposes and then automatically deleted.
8. International transfers
BrightCat Data Ltd. is registered in the United Kingdom. Some of our service providers operate data centres outside Canada, including in the United States, United Kingdom, and European Union. When we transfer personal information internationally, we rely on contractual safeguards (including the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or equivalent instruments) and the privacy frameworks in those jurisdictions.
9. Security
We maintain reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect personal information — encrypted connections (TLS) for all site traffic, access controls on internal systems, and commercial-grade email and form infrastructure. No system is perfectly secure, but we aim to be at or above standard practice for a data-focused enterprise company.
10. Changes to this notice
If we make material changes to this notice, we'll update the "last updated" date at the top and note the substantive change in our llms.txt changelog. For minor corrections (typos, clarifications) we'll update without notice.
